Welcome

Welcome to my wargaming blog,
I'm Dave and live in Morpeth, Northumberland in the UK.
This may or may not be a regular thing, we'll just have to see how it goes.

I am a painter/collector of figures first and a wargamer second. My thrill in this great hobby of ours is to place that final well researched & painted unit into the cabinet. The actual gaming with the figures is an important but secondary experience, we all like to win, but it isn't the be all and end all of it, being with good friends and having fun is.
Hope you will enjoy reading this blog as much as I will writing in it.
Just to remind the visitor to scroll down the various pages and click on 'older posts' to see more.
Dave.

25mm Hinchliffe Napolionics

As the occasional readers of this blog may be aware my interest in wargaming was initially influenced by Brig Peter Young's book The Wargame bought for my birthday by my parents at about the age of 14, 64 now so a while ago! the figures particularly in the Napoleonic bits were fantastic and truthfully I have fancied having something similar ever since.

I have therefore gone down the duel route of buying the odd figure from the manufacturers and eBay for the majority. The ones from eBay generally required a degree of either tarting up or even stripping down and re-painting. Brown vinegar is by far the best and smelliest! Never mind the fancy stuff on line.

So this is , or will be a collection. I don't particularly intend to wargame with these figures and will increase the collection only as and when suitable figures come up on line. If 1815 British figures come up then I would be interested.

Anyhow here they are:

These were bought pretty much as you see them, there are a couple of Minifig figs in here but they look ok.

grenadiers a cheval, half of these figures are the officer type but I just removed the epaulettes.

Dutch lancers, these needed quite a bit of work.

Two squadrons of Dragoons, half bought from the manufacturer while the others need stripping right down and repainted.

A battery of foot artillery.

Guard Grenadiers.

Guard Chasseurs.

Napoleon and Ney.

Various Marshals.

I left the bases plain to keep the 'old school' look, I haven't decided if I should do more with the bases yet.
Dave.

  1. I'm a sucker for Hinchliffe figures, and have been since the 70s. I got rid of my Napoleonics but have since built a pretty big ECW collection. Mine are shiny though for extra nostalgia value (see the latest units I'm fiddling with on cabinettewars.blogspot.com).
You are welcome to any spare Hinchliffe Napoleonics I have for the price of the postage.

    1. Many thanks Rob, I’m the same, nice and shiny for me to. If you have French or British that would do for the 1815 period I’d be delighted to have them.

    2. Dave, I've dug out some Brits and French, not a huge amount, I've also got some Russians that could be used in 1815 for the Prussian 30th & 31st Infantry Regiments which were still wearing their Russian uniforms from when they were part of the Russo-German Legion. Let me know your address and I'll send them, better say whether or not you want the Russian infantry to keep the weight down if you don't want them.

    3. Fantastic Rob, I’ll not bother with the Russians thanks but the rest is very much appreciated. My address is: 79 Beaumont Court, Pegswood, Northumberland NE616BF. Again, very kind.

  4. Sounds like parallel lives (except I’m across the pond): I’m 63, got the same book at a young age (still have it), and also appreciate Hinchliffe figures. My collection are mostly Renaissance. Congratulations on your lovely figures. Keep up the good work rescuing wonderful vintage figures and restoring them to their glory!

  5. Very kind Gents, I’m continually scouring eBay for bargains, but the idea of ‘restoring’ figures does appeal. Dave.
