Welcome

Welcome to my wargaming blog,
I'm Dave and live in Morpeth, Northumberland in the UK.
This may or may not be a regular thing, we'll just have to see how it goes.

I am a painter/collector of figures first and a wargamer second. My thrill in this great hobby of ours is to place that final well researched & painted unit into the cabinet. The actual gaming with the figures is an important but secondary experience, we all like to win, but it isn't the be all and end all of it, being with good friends and having fun is.
Hope you will enjoy reading this blog as much as I will writing in it.
Just to remind the visitor to scroll down the various pages and click on 'older posts' to see more.
Dave.

Emigre Legion de Damas 1793.

This weeks work consists of the Emigre Legion de Damas from the early French revolutionary period to add to the coalition side. For a bit of info see Wikipedia here.
As per my ongoing attempt to wade through the pile of lead these fellow are a bit of a hotch potch of previously used/unused figures from any old background cobbled together to make something useful and may by some to be considered a bit of fantasy. For example the infantry are mainly Front Rank French AWI figures with two Old Glory Americans thrown in and a Font Rank Seven years war leader on horse back. The Hussars which I suspect didn't appear until later in the wars (maybe yes, maybe no) are again Front Rank with the shako peak filed off and the artillery is frankly completely made up with no evidence whatsoever to say they even exist! So there you go, I have no shame.
The uniforms themselves, other than the artillery and command figure are reasonably accurate.
The units are done for Gen de Armee and are all small units or half battery in the rules.

What next, mucking about with FPW rules adaptations for General de Armee.
Take care,
Dave.

    1. Yes Colin, their colour may be nice but I suspect the quality won't be up to much. When first raised they weren't to bad but then incorporated French republican deserters and it was downhill all the way after that!

  3. Lovely Dave. It was quite a period for romantic sounding units and bright uniforms, although my favourites still remain the Army du Conde? I think they are the chaps decked out in black.

    1. The black guys were the Mirabeau Legion which were part of the Army of Conde.

  4. A lovely unit and this period is tempting me somewhat, but more research required.

    1. You still have to hunt around a bit but the info situation is much better now than it used to be when I first started 15 or so years ago. Have a look at this facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/groups/1743072295727020/ for starters Steve.
