Welcome

Welcome to my wargaming blog,
I'm Dave and live in Morpeth, Northumberland in the UK.
This may or may not be a regular thing, we'll just have to see how it goes.

I am a painter/collector of figures first and a wargamer second. My thrill in this great hobby of ours is to place that final well researched & painted unit into the cabinet. The actual gaming with the figures is an important but secondary experience, we all like to win, but it isn't the be all and end all of it, being with good friends and having fun is.
Hope you will enjoy reading this blog as much as I will writing in it.
Just to remind the visitor to scroll down the various pages and click on 'older posts' to see more.

Another addition. French 10mm Napoleonic

Another short post as I have put this sort of thing on before really, but 10mm or not it's still a brigades worth (I think this makes about five for the French) plus another light infantry battalion and it's broken up skirmish elements:

I'm busy doing bases for some free standing buildings to 'tart' them up, as I pretty crap at terrain we'll see how that goes eh!

Bits and bobs

It ain't that I haven't been doing anything guys, honest but really little to post on here for a while. I have completed a full brigade of 10mm French infantry for 1812 but as I have posted photographs of similar brigades of these chaps on here in the past I didn't think it worth putting them on again. Still more of these and their Russian counterparts to paint up but getting on towards thirty battalions per side now so pleased with the progress on that front.

Just to break things up though I wanted to begin adding a bit of 'street furniture' as it were for Sharp Practice games in particular but other larger scale games as well so after trawling through eBay I was pleased to find a number of suitable items to purchase. We are incredibly fortunate to be able to access so much great stuff on line when years ago it would all have had to be DIY'd ourselves.

Also bought a 28mm figure of prince Fredrick duke of York for the French Revolution collection. I would normally have based him up before photographing him but as a C in C he needs to be on a base with at least two other figures which I haven't got yet so that will have to wait.

Next up, more 10mm Naps I think, I may put them up here just to prove I haven't been sitting on my arse, well I have of course, not many of us paint standing up!

10mm ECW horse rgts

Though frankly a pain in the arse getting pinged by the NHS app does give you time to paint figures though other than that I am going a tad stir crazy, thank god for the football, so far at least!

Started with the ECW 10mm horse for both sides, as you see I mixed headwear and little or no uniform for the Edghill period. The flags are my own invention so anything goes, I love this period. Figures are Pendraken.

Royalist horse:

Parliamentary horse:

Dragoons for both sides next I think.

British 59th battalion 1793-6

Here is the final (ye right!) unit to finish off the émigré brigade fighting in Flanders cir 1793, in this case the British 59th to give those royalists a bit of backbone. In truth many émigré units fought very well and the British were not yet the troops of the Peninsular campaign but I'll address those issues when they get onto the table.

Really enjoyed painting up these Emperors Toad figures Here, they have a large and expanding range and are well worth looking into if your getting into the period, do support them there nice guys.

With white facings I went with a white cover painted backpack and the 59 painted on, conjectural I know but who's to say really. If anyone knows different please let me know but I wont be changing them. No flank companies of course, the grenadiers were combined while the lights were sent to the West Indies to die of fever, very nice!

10mm ECW Parliament Lord Brooke's Rgt

Another 10mm ECW unit plus a couple of light guns to accompany the regiments into battle, this time its Lord Brooke's battalia, a 'large' unit.

I didn't intend to get these done but had to wait for those 28mm British to arrive. They have now so on with them next though obviously it may take me a bit longer to complete the 28's than our other minuscule friends!
